I was one of the 4,995 students who completed a survey.
I love Western. It is an institution that is full of history, tradition and iconic images. Walking over the Thames bridge in the morning and seeing University College atop UC hill, flying the Canadian flag makes me proud to be a student here. Ever seen the clock tower at Middlesex College lit up at night? So beautiful. Regardless of whether we take campus icons such as these out of the logo, they remain a treasured sight for students, faculty and alumni alike.
Purple and proud ‘til I die - regardless of the shade of purple. Because come on people, I know the majority of you wouldn’t even notice the change if they hadn’t explicitly mentioned it.
The only part of the “re-branding” (which cost the university $200,000 in case anyone was wondering) that I take issue with is the change of the common-use name and how it is written on the new logo. Although I most often use “Western” to refer to The University of Western Ontario in conversation, when I type I use the acronym UWO (it’s less characters). “Western” was the caption on the old logo, and I had no issue with that. On the new logo (a coat of arms) however, the caption reads Western University Canada. To me this implies two things:
At the end of the day I don’t see the entire rebranding as a terrible endeavour, but like I said before I take issue with the change of the “common-use” name. Not that it’s changed to Western but that it has University Canada attached to it.
But what the hell, it’s Thursday night, lets all go drown our sorrows on Richmond Row - the bottom of the bottle always want to hear your complaints.
MIT - 100:1 girl to guy ratio.
Guys love it, girls hate it.
See the third episode of 3Audrey - Jim Bob Rage… somewhere about halfway through ”girl to guy ratio…Woo”

Today The University of Western Ontario unveiled its new branding. This is the response of 99% of the alumni on facebook.
I think a significant portion of the current students feel the same. The logo isn’t so much an issue for me , nor is the slight change in the official school colour (I mean, is it really THAT noticeable?). The change of The University of Western Ontario’s name to Western University Canada though, really? To what demographic does that sound better or more attractive? When you drop the Ontario it makes it sound like our university is located in western Canada, which it is quite obviously not. What was wrong with The University of Western Ontario to begin with? Sure it may have been a bit of a mouthful, but that was conveniently shortened into the much more manageable acronym UWO.
Suffice it to say that I am not impressed.
